Cc: Rev. Dr. Janice L. Edmiston

We greet you with the peace of Christ and gratitude for your faith and service!

As most of you know, the Rev. Ginny Smith announced several months ago her plans to retire in July.  Since 2006 Ginny provided exemplary service as Associate Executive Presbyter for Ministry, working primarily with the Committees on Ministry and Preparation for Ministry.  The presbytery granted her the status of Honorably Retired Minister of Word and Sacrament effective August 1, 2011. Her twenty-nine years of ministry were celebrated during a presbytery sponsored retirement party at the Elmhurst Presbyterian Church on August 3.

Following Ginny’s announcement, the Presbytery Council appointed an Interim Associate Executive Presbyter for Ministry Nominating Committee (IAEPMNC) in May, which began its search process immediately.  Yesterday, the Presbytery Coordinating Commission (PCC) acted on a recommendation from the IAEPMNC and elected the Rev. Dr. Janice L. Edmiston to become the IAEPM beginning August 29, 2011.  She will serve a one year renewable term.  Other details of her contract will be included in the PCC’s report to the presbytery assembly on September 20 at which time she will be introduced.

The search committee, moderated by the Rev. Charles Miyamoto representing the Staff Personnel Work Group, consisted of two representatives from the Commission on Preparation, Rev. Bob Crall and Elder Sylvia Robertson, and three representatives from the Commission on Ministry, Elder Lawrence Brown, Elder Mike Wolfe, and Rev. Anne Fisher.  On the committee’s behalf, Rev. Miyamoto stated the following:  “The Nominating Committee learned that Rev. Edmiston brings exceptional relational skills and gifts.  She is enthusiastic and passionate about the church with great staying power.  She brings a warm spirit and is not overbearing.   With graciousness, she is a sensitive reader of people and has rapport with clergy, session members, and candidates for ministry.”

Rev. Edmiston brings twenty-seven years of pastoral experience to this priority area of presbytery service.  We are grateful and excited about her credentials and gifts for ministry.  Please join us in welcoming her as a caring and skillful colleague serving Chicago Presbytery congregations, ministers, and persons preparing for ministry!
