Our new moderator’s home church was the host of February’s Assembly. 2013 Presbytery Moderator Julio Peña is a ruling elder from Pullman Presbyterian Church in Chicago, and he was installed at the Saturday gathering. 2012 Moderator Rev Deb Paton was thanked for her time and talents, including a track record of always being on time or early in the agenda, stewarding the time of our commissioners as well.

The order of the day was a Bible Study facilitated by the Vision to Praxis Task Force. Kurt Esslinger and HyeYoung Lee were commissioned as mission co-workers in South Korea. Drs. Robert Cathey and Ken Sawyer presented on the Heidelberg Catechism, which the Assembly will vote on in April, and which language was drawn from for worship throughout the day. Worshipful voices were lifted by the Cicero Emmanuel Presbyterian Church’s praise band, as well as Pullman’s choir and Pullman’s liturgical dance troupe “Instruments of Peace.”

The Assembly voted on proposed amendments to the Book of Order – repentance language in the ordination requirements and concurrences with presbytery overtures procedures to the General Assembly.
