Black History Month celebration

Written by Joyce E. Philpott Moore, Recording Secretary of the Southside Christian Education Council Team

All generations were brought together to remember and look forward in a celebration of Black History Month on February 23. In a performance entitled “A World Without Our People,” a young man was shown all the accomplishment made by black people that affected his daily life. Then there were poster drawing workshops, “Transforming Violence to Positive Action” where children showed their vision of a world without violence.

A panel discussion followed, where teens and medical/psychology professionals discussed the topic “Using Our Legacy To Transform Violence To Productive Action.”  The event was organized by the Southside Christian Education Council Team in collaboration with National Black Presbyterian Caucus, Chicago Chapter, and Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church.
