Higgins Scholarship Recipients for the 2013-2014 Academic Year

During his lifetime, William H. Higgins gave financial assistance to many students at McCormick Theological Seminary. At the time of his death, he left a bequest to continue his support of those preparing for professional leadership in the church. This bequest is called the Higgins Scholarship Fund and has been administered by a committee accountable to the Presbytery of Chicago since 1960.

The Higgins Scholarship Fund Committee is pleased to announce a total of $36,000 was awarded to the following students:

  • KERRI ALLEN. Kerri is a Teaching Elder in Chicago Presbytery who serves part time on the pastoral staff of Wildwood Presbyterian Church and is a PhD student at Garrett Theological Seminary.
  • JENNIFER HUBBARD. Jenny serves as Co-Director of Children’s Ministries at Knox Presbyterian Church and a half time student at McCormick Theological Seminary.
  • JAE HYOUNG LEE. Jae is a MDiv student at McCormick Theological Seminary. He is from Korea and a member of the Korean United Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
  • STEPHANIE LEVAN. Stephanie is a MDiv student at McCormick Theological Seminary, a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River and an Inquirer under care of Chicago Presbytery.
  • CATHERINE KNOTT. Catherine is a Teaching Elder in Chicago Presbytery who serves part time as a pastor for children’s worship at Kenilworth Union Church and is a PhD student at Garrett Theological Seminary.
  • JON PHILLIPS. Jon is from Spokane, WA, and is a PhD student at Chicago Theological Seminary in Theology, Ethics, and Human Sciences.
  • JONAH SALIM. Jonah is from Egypt and is now a Teaching Elder in Chicago Presbytery and pursuing a PHD in World Christianity and Mission at Lutheran School of Theology.
  • AMIR TAWADROUS. Amir is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Church of Egypt. Currently he is pursuing a MTS in Inter-Religious Dialogue at McCormick Theological Seminary.
  • SOHEE STELLA YANG. Sohee is from Korea and is currently pursuing a MTS at McCormick Theological Seminary.
