Getting ready for General Assembly: Commissioners Blog

Anne Fisher

Anne Fisher and her husband, Gregg Dana

I am honored to be elected as one of Chicago Presbytery’s Teaching Elder Commissioners to the General Assembly in Detroit this year. I am trying to be a good commissioner and get ahead of  all the reading related to General Assembly. So far, I am only moderately successful!

I have been assigned to the Social Justice Issues Committee. The Overture entitled: Taking Meaningful Action to reduce Gun Violence which was endorsed by Chicago Presbytery has landed in this committee. Other overtures deal with asking the Denomination to make a statement or to study  things such as, at study on effective drug policies, end-of life-issues, food sovereignty, affirming the importance of maternal and child nutrition, will be part of this committee’s work.

I am looking forward to my time at GA. A special bonus for me is that I will be rooming with my daughter-in-law, MaryAnn McKibben Dana who is a Teaching Elder Commissioner from National Capital Presbytery. She has been asked to stand as Vice Moderator with Moderator Candidate John Wilkinson. John was a member of Chicago Presbytery when he was an Associate Pastor at FourthChurch. I look forward to a time of connecting and reconnecting in Detroit this June.

Please keep us in your prayers during the Assembly June 14-21.
