Chicago CROP Hunger Walk

Crop Walk 2015Almost time to CROP Walk! The Chicago CROP Hunger Walk will step off on Sunday, Oct. 18 and participants from the Presbytery of Chicago are among the thousands gearing up to “help end hunger one step at a time.” Walkers can choose between a 2-mile family walk route or 10K option. Both routes start at St. James Episcopal Cathedral in the Loop – with registration at 1 p.m. and step-off at 2 p.m. Now is a great time to check out this link to get information on the walk, sign up to participate, and get going on fundraising. Find out about walk rallies and other ways to connect, too!
Not a walker? There are other ways to support the Chicago CROP Walk! Volunteers are needed to help the event run smoothly – before the walk and on the day of the walk. There’s a way for everyone to participate!

How are funds from the Chicago CROP Walk used?

Money raised supports efforts to address root causes of hunger: via global Church World Service programs and locally, too! The presbytery’s End Hunger and Homelessness Mission Team, along with other local groups, will receive a percentage of funds from this year’s walk – and will use those funds to support organizations doing hands-on, grassroots work to address hunger in our area.

Why are CROP Walks, including the Chicago CROP Walk, so important?

Key findings from the latest report from Feeding America  make the need clear. You’ll also find a map that shows you what hunger looks like, county by county. In Cook County alone, 761,000 of our neighbors are food insecure and struggle, at times, to have access to enough, healthy food to feed their families.

How can you help if you don’t live in Chicago?

Church World Service sponsors CROP Walks all over the Chicago area! Presbytery of Chicago congregations participate in many of them! Not on board, yet? Use your zip code to find out about a CROP Walk near you, and get ready to walk to
end hunger.
