A Recipe for Success

Take 15 chili cooks. Add one church family. Stir together on a Sunday after worship. Enjoy!

For several years, we have had a Chili Cook-Off to support “Feed My Starving Children.” If you’d like to try it in your congregation, here is how we do it: 15 members sign up to each bring a crock pot of their favorite chili recipe. After Sunday morning worship, the church family is invited to try a small sample of each chili recipe. To “vote” on the one(s) they like best, everyone is encouraged to put a dollar bill (or more) in the box(es) by their favorite chili(s). Some of the chili cooks dress up in costumes; some of them decorate their table; some of them provide “extras” like oyster crackers, shredded cheese, chopped onions, corn bread, or sour cream — anything to capture attention and “votes”! At our last Chili Cook-Off, we raised $800 for “Feed My Starving Children.” Even more importantly, we enjoyed an intergenerational time of fun and fellowship together!
