Crerar Celebrates 120 Years of Faith and Fellowship

Crerar Memorial Presbyterian Church, is celebrating the 120th Anniversary of the church! Activities recognizing this milestone began the first of the year with the adoption of “Here Through Faith” as the unifying theme for the yearlong celebration. Mid-year events included the following activities and programs.

JUNE: Telling Our Stories Workshop- Because telling stories is key to documenting history, Crerar created a FREE multigenerational program to aid youth and adults in discovering and using their gifts to tell personal, family and community stories. Workshop speakers included authors Kevin Coval, Natalie Y. Moore and Elizabeth Rivera. The public was invited to attend.

JULY: The Summer Sunday Picnic, following the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service was an an outdoor program of fellowship for family and friends celebrating the blessings of 120 years. Activities included games for children and adults, live music from Crerar’s minister, Lawrence A. Brown and The Blue Groove Band, picnic fare, cake and make- your-own ice cream sundaes.

SEPTEMBER: An Afternoon Gala was the first of two week-end events celebrating Crerar’s ministry from 1897 to 2017. The gala luncheon for the congregation, family and friends included musical entertainment, and a look at the memories and milestones throughout Crerar’s history which were showcased in a slide presentation.
The Anniversary Worship Service, the second event, included guest Praise Dancer, Minister Carmen Burton and an eloquent anniversary tribute focusing on his foundation of faith from youth to manhood as a member of the Crerar family by Willis Brown IV. Minister Lawrence A. Brown (no relation) shared the word in his sermon “Here by Faith.”

With more than 20 ministers, changes in the congregation racial composition and size, with FAITH, Crerar continues its mission to celebrate and share God’s word, ministering to the greater community and Crerar family as stewards and obedient servants of God.
