Presbytery of Chicago Mission

Three Mission Directions

The Presbytery of Chicago has defined and prioritized three Mission Directions for 2006-2010 and authorized three Mission Priority Leadership Teams to advance the Mission Directions:

Empower Ministry:

Assist our congregations in building lay and clergy partnerships that nurture and employ the various gifts of the spirit within our people.

Develop Congregations:

Respond to Jesus’ call to “follow me” and become “fishers of humanity” by drawing believers, disciples and seekers into congregations that are centers of celebration, healing and witness.

Advance Justice:

Embrace the rich diversity of God’s people by entering into and by deepening the relationships among congregations of the Presbytery, and by fostering just community with ecumenical and interreligious partners.

The Presbytery is also committed to “doing mission” in partnership with congregations through the covenant process.

The Covenant Process

The covenant process is the basic means through which the presbytery carries out its mission. Covenants are agreements among sessions, social service agencies or mission units and the presbytery that create partnerships and projects that advance the presbytery’s vision and mission directions. Covenants are activated by Mission Priority Leadership Teams through a consultative process that results in the activation of mission teams. The presbytery is an active partner in all of the activated covenants presented in this report.Mission Priorities
