Welcome to the second video blog from the Presbytery of Chicago. If you watched clips from the April Assembly, you may notice the better camera and use of a tripod (or at least absence of shakiness). This time assembling the bits has been a learning process. Pulling these clips together has gone slowly as I’ve taught myself how to use the editing software, but the blog and I are improving. So--I hope you’ll join me in celebrating this opportunity to communicate. During some parts of the meeting, the main camcorder was glitchy but the smaller digitals captured the audio very well, so this is a mixed media report. I hope these highlights from the June meeting give you a clear picture of things that go on at an assembly. Adele Hensley

“Imagine our…Presbytery calling people to see great dreams, and envision great visions…Pentecost is about daring to speak what we know is true…”

David Neff preached during the worship service while, on the floor of the center aisle, Shawna Bowman created a work of art over the course of the service. A video camera over her shoulder allowed the congregation to watch the work take shape. Here is the last part of David’s sermon, and Shawna’s drawing…

Executive Presbyter’s Report

Bob Reynolds thanked the members of the Assembly for their prayerful support while he recovered from surgery. He shared prayer concerns and then he had some things to say about the Presbytery’s active peacemaking efforts:

Friendship Presbyterian Church- “God is Just Getting Started”

The Develop Congregations Mission Priority Leadership Team report included a litany of celebration from the newly-merged Friendship Presbyterian Church. They included everyone in their celebration.
Ann Ohlrogge Johnson shared about the far ranging consequences past sexual misconduct by a church leader can have. At a recent training, the True North Response Team learned that “Clergy Killer” congregations are often secondary victims of past sexual misconduct.

Musician Needed

Mayfair Presbyterian Church is searching for a Praise Leader for their 11:30 AM Sunday Contemporary Service. They seek a person who ”feels called to contemporary worship music ministry,” who can lead services, including music and prayers, and who can accompany with an instrument. They say they are a “small congregation in a small church where all are working hard to discern God’s plan for its future in the Mayfair neighborhood of Chicago.” The person they choose will “be comfortable minstering to and with a diverse group of varying ages, diverse backgrounds and gifts, all struggling to help renew our church.” The job will be 5-6 hours per week, not including travel time. Duties will include rehearsing with the praise team, leading Sunday service, selecting music with the praise team, and taking part in preparing PowerPoint Slides, and preparing chord sheets each week. For more information, or to apply, please fax (773-685-0105) or email (mayfairpres@sbcglobal.net Attn. We are looking to acquire 50 of the most recent Supplemental Hymnal called “Sing the Faith” (2003). We’d be happy to do a straight swap–one for one (or 50 for 50).”
